Hermione's cable-and-bobble hat Knit this Aran-style cabled hat for your next visit to Britain's only wizarding village. The cabling is thoroughly addictive – particularly ambitious knitters may finish this hat in a single weekend! It's perfect for snowball fights, long wintertime walks – or just wear it as the final touch on your Hermione If you have never knit cables before, you'll want to refer to a knitting reference book to get a basic understanding of how cables work. Once you've gotten the hang of the technique with a few practice swatches, you should be ready to go. (We promise cabling is much easier than it looks!) And if you're on a tight budget, you can substitute any worsted-weight yarn that knits at the given gauge. Just be aware that acrylic yarns may not block as well as wools and wool blends. Techniques required for this pattern are: knitting, purling, circular knitting (including double-pointed needles), cables, and decreases (k2tog, p2tog, ssk). This pattern uses 1 skein of Cascade 220 (100% worsted-weight wool – 100g/220yds per skein) in shade #9404 (ruby). The finished hat is sized during blocking and can fit up to a 24" circumference head. Gauge for the pattern is 5.25 sts/7.75 rows per inch on US 7 (4.5mm) needles or size needed to get gauge. If your favorite yarn shop doesn't stock Cascade 220, we recommend HelloKnitty.com for their competitive pricing, fantastic service, and inexpensive shipping ($2 regardless of order size).
